Who We Are

Rooted in Tradition.Driven by Growth.

Tulita Developments Ltd. (TDL) is the economic development corporation wholly owned by the Tulita Dene Band (TDB), representing the interests of its members and supporting long-term, sustainable growth in the region.

Tulita Dene Band reports over 800 Dene members whose traditional lands span the Great Bear Rock area, the Mackenzie Mountains, and the Mackenzie River. These lands have sustained the Tulita people for generations and continue to shape the Band’s cultural identity, values, and vision for the future.

TDL operates as the business arm of the Tulita Dene Band, working to create economic opportunities, partnerships, and community-driven projects that benefit both current and future generations. The Chief of the Tulita Dene Band serves as President of both the Band and Tulita Developments Ltd., ensuring strong alignment between leadership, community priorities, and economic development initiatives.

Rooted in tradition and guided by community values, Tulita Developments Ltd. is committed to responsible development that respects the land, strengthens the local economy, and supports the well-being of Tulita Dene members.

Land

TDL has access to strategically located lands within and around the community of Tulita and Norman Wells, a neighbouring community. These lands are positioned to support residential, commercial, and mixed-use development opportunities.

Buildings

TDL owns and manages a range of buildings that support both operational and revenue-generating activities. These may include:
  • Residential and staff housing units
  • Office and administrative spaces
  • Camp-style accommodations and modular units
  • Storage and utility buildings
These assets are essential in a northern environment where infrastructure is limited and the ability to house workers, contractors, and visitors is critical to economic activity.

Equipment

TDL maintains equipment necessary to support construction, maintenance, and logistical operations in a remote northern setting. This includes:
  • Light and heavy equipment for site preparation and maintenance
  • Vehicles and transport equipment suited for seasonal conditions
  • Tools and materials required for building upkeep and small-scale construction
  • Equipment to support camp operations and remote project delivery
Given the logistical challenges of the North, maintaining reliable and accessible equipment is a key component of TDL’s ability to execute projects efficiently and respond to community needs.

Our Community

Tulita — Where Rivers & Mountains Meet

Tulita is a vibrant Dene community located in the Sahtu Region of the Northwest Territories, at the confluence of the Mackenzie River and the Great Bear River. Known historically as "Fort Norman," Tulita has long served as a gathering place for trade, travel, and cultural exchange.

Today, Tulita remains deeply connected to the land. Surrounded by the Mackenzie Mountains and vast northern wilderness, the community reflects a way of life rooted in tradition, resilience, and respect for nature. The land continues to provide for the people through hunting, fishing, and harvesting.
